Industry
Background
In
2010, global stainless steel industry recovered from the lows
over the past two years and world stainless production ended
a downward trend, hitting a new record of 30.7 million tons
which is 24.9% higher than the 2009 level. China, with an output
of 11.3 million tons, was again the major driving force for
the world stainless steel production growth in 2010 when it
had become a net exporter for the first time with its import
and export inked 1.1 million tons and 1.5 million tons respectively.
China's demand for stainless steel in the 12th Five-year Plan
period will continue to grow, though the growth is widely expected
to significantly slow down.
Despite
of the pretty figures of 2010, the world stainless steel industry
is still faced with many challenges like economic uncertainties,
rising raw material prices and depressed operating results,
etc in 2011 and the years beyond.
